'There is so much to Egyptian dance - the music, the history and culture as well as the beautiful costumes. Bellydance is such a wonderful dance and something ladies (and gents) of all ages can do - even my mum and mother in law! It had been such a great experience to dance at shows and parties and I look forward to many more

dances to come!'

I started belly dancing initially as a way of keeping fit, it was not long though before i really began to enjoy the different styles of dance and became keen to learn more. The girls i dance with in Egyptia are fantastic and really supportive, as is Beverley our teacher who works hard to improve all our dance skills. She has helped me grow in confidence and i now love dancing as part of a group at various events.

Paulette

Belly dance is my passion. Over time I have gone from learning Egyptian dance to attending Haflas, finally being brave enough to get up and dance in front of a group of people. Paulette has travelled to Cairo and had lessons there with Lubne Eman and Yasmina, she has also had lessons from many other top dancers and performed at parties, fetes, festivals etc

Egyptia has helped me gain confidence to perform in public and improve my technique . Belly dancing is a continuous learning process there are always new moves and ideas that you acquire by going to workshops and by watching some great dancers performing at different events that Beverley and other members of the dancing world organize , it is also an opportunity to have a wonderful social life and make some great friends.

"I started bellydancing at the gym and found that i really enjoyed it. Upon moving to Leeds i decided to try out a few different classes (there are so many classes and wonderful teachers in the area). After my sister had taken a workshop with Beverley at the Day of Dance festival she recommended that i try one of her classes, as 'she is such a beautiful dancer'. I began dancing with Bev last year and have never looked back. Not only is she a beautiful dancer but she is also a wonderful teacher who has given me the confidence to dance in front of an audience. All of the ladies in Egyptia are lovely, as well as being fantastic dancers and as a group really inspire me to continue improving."

To dance has been a childhood ambition, a dream, that I am now fulfilling. When I dance it awakens me, heightens my senses and lights up my passion for life. I started to dance about a year ago and joined Egyptia earlier this year. It has been a pleasure and an honour to rehearse with this group of inspirational women They represent femininity in it's true form, they all have dance in common and an inner beauty that they capture through their dancing.

When I first started belly dancing I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but as my interest with the dance grew, and the weeks turned into months,it was something I found to be just brilliant! It has given me the self confidence to dance with Egyptia and I find it a great way to express my feelings. It’s beautiful, elegant and graceful but it’s also great fun, and it’s a fantastic and very friendly way to enjoy dancing.

I have been dancing for years and when I had the opportunity to try Egyptian I couldn't wait.

From the first class I attended I fell in love with with bellydancing and how graceful, sensual and fun theve been dance could be.

I have attended classes and workshops with a number of top dancers and now dance with two groups having plucked up the courage to dance in public!

I started dancing a few years ago when my daughter asked me to try out some of the classes. I started as a beginner to bellydance having not danced before and I soon found myself enjoying the classes, not just the dancing but the chance to meet new people and make new friends.  I love the music and the costumes and the chance to get away from everyday life and let my hair down. Since joining I have taken part in many performances and haflas something I never thought I would have the confidence to do.

I lived in the Middle East for a few years as a teenager and tried a few styles of Arabic dance, and I fell in love with the rhythms and movements! Belly dancing is great as it really celebrates the female form. Learning to dance with Beverley has really helped to develop my confidence and make me feel better about the way I look. I’ve had so many fun experiences since joining Egyptia, and Bev and the other girls are so encouraging and such a pleasure to dance with. I’m really looking forward to more opportunities to learn more belly dance styles and perform them with the rest of Egyptia!

I started bellydancing as a way to build up strength after a long term illness, and I became hooked. I'm a shy person but belly dance is a great escape for me and I've become quite healthy again. When I was asked to join Egyptia, I couldn't believe it and though I went away to think about the extra strain on my body from shows, I knew I was going to say yes. The ladies I dance with are phenominal, and our troupe leader and teacher is the most encouraging, beaming woman I've met and its a pleasure to be part of this troupe.
